We are advised to apply good sunblock when venturing outdoors to shield against harmful radiation from the sun. But won’t this reduce vitamin D production and cause weak bones? Vitamin D is produced by sunlight reacting with skin and is essential for strong bones. It can lead to rickets when young and osteoporosis and fractures later in life. Some sunlight is essential, preferably early in the morning when UV rays are at a minimum.
