Kayaking Jumbo Peanut: The practice of eating insects is called entomophagy

1 November, 2008

by Serge

There is nothing funnier then making fun of other animals… It’s a funny shot and it really has a great impact. A good, stand-alone image that will look really bad (poorly made/unrealistic) in 10 years. But then again we are in the age of iPod (as oppose to steam or industrial age): everything is disposable. There is a new model coming out every week right?

I am just wondering how they put it together. I see a landscape shot and then perhaps a couple of elephants photographed from every angle to give the digital team material with which to put things together. I mean it does not look real but that’s ok for an image with a bit of humour. If this was a serious one perhaps there would be some 3D models involved.

  1. Delightful. Even in this age of an excess of animals behaving human, this one’s a standout. Much better than utilizing sexual innuendo or insinuations of “you are an idiot if you don’t understand my blurry concept” ads. You look, you get the point you laugh you run out to buy that brand of peanuts. Delightful.

  3. Quite the primitive concept. I am sure it would amuse the children. They always love elephants after all.

  4. Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but does this image or product or advertisement have anything to do with entomophagy? Why put that word in the title? There’s no insects at all, let alone the consumption of insects…. I dearly hope that someone will be able to explain the use of this word.
    Thanks a lot.

  5. I don’t know if this is your answer Dave but one guy said he made a paste out of crickets and it tasted like peanut butter. There’s probably a better reason - but I don’t care to spend time pursuing it. There is a site where the consumption of insects is THE topic. Maybe someone there can elucidate you further. Or the guy who writes this blog, ask him. YW.

  6. This is too funny! Love that the huge elephant is choking on a peanut. Guess it really is a big peanut!
