MTV: Skins

Parents can’t forbid things they don’t know exist. Skins. Don’t let them know about this show.
Um, I hate to be the one to break it to you, MTV, but parents already know about this show. Everybody knows about this show.
In-case you have been fortunate enough to avoid knowing anything about Skins, I will fill you in. Skins is a television program that needs to use mass-drug use and experimental promiscuity to advertise itself as a great program for teenagers. Derr. That’s a no-brainer.
In reality, it is just dirty, if you ask me, and if you watch it, it gives you that gritty feeling of wrongness, and makes you thankful that you do not have a teenage son or daughter. When I was a teenager we had programs that dealt with sex, drugs, suicide – all the teenage issues – yet they managed to do it without compromising our innnocence (ha!). Degrassi Junior High, for example. You can’t go past a good episode of Degrassi to get the issues out in the open. You can enough have a good laugh while you are at it (especially at the hair).
You see, I think the people who make this show are really smarter than they appear. They know parents won’t like it, and they know why…but they also know that, when parents get angry about things as simple as T.V, kids will eventually just find a way to really piss them off. So, parents are at a total loss here. MTV knows this. They love it (clearly).
I am not offended by drugs, sex, booze or crimes, but I am offended by changing the channel to see a sixteen year old girl sitting on the edge of a bed, crying as she puts on her bra, the satisfied boy lying beside her. Dirty.
I think it is a shame that the most relevant television programs for teens these days are like this. I do not for a moment believe that this is art imitating life, but I fear that life will imitate “art“.
I would rather my kids go and smoke bongs and have sex because they want to. Not because some seedy British T.V. show says it’s cool. Eeewww…

“a sixteen year old girl sitting on the edge of a bed, crying as she puts on her bra, the satisfied boy lying beside her. Dirty.”
Clearly, you didn’t watch any episode of Skins.
Word of advice, you’d better watch more than 5 minutes of it before criticize it…

To understand the complexity of this show is obviously well beyond your complexity. I am not one to frequently comment on online review but one like this filled with such ignorance got be angry enough that I could not help but comment. First of all, Skins is a show, simply a show that you the viewer, can choice to either view or not view. A for parents you can choice to either let or not let your child watch the program. Growing up I was never allowed to watch South Park by my parents guess what I never watch South Park. It is really that easy. Now when it comes to this program this is simply the most raw, real, and relatable show on television. The fact that you reference shows in you generation (probably from way back in the 70s) as what we should be achieving to be displays how pathetic your view on television really is. Being a 21 one year old who lived though the time depicted on this program, this is what happens? This is the reality to growing up here in America or overseas. Kids do drugs, kids have sex and I am thankful that a show finally displays a realistic take on life. For someone to look at afterschool specials, and The Facts of Life as accurate accounts of the world today need a serious dose of reality. Thank god, you are not a network program. Your ignorance is everything wrong with the world today and I hope people stop you from voicing your inaccurate views on the world.

bitch. skins is one of the best things that ever happened to me. it brings controversial issues forward in a sometimes-comedic way, but showcases it beautifully. i adore this show, it’s helped me through some tough times.

It’s obvious you haven’t watched the show. Yes the kids do drugs, they have sex and they have problems but it’s not entirely that. Most of the times drugs and sex are involved something goes wrong and they have to learn to deal with it. I think this is an amazing show, one of the best I’ve seen in years but then again I prefer a show that is real and harsh than a show that is watered down to try not to *shock* offend anyone.
